Chris Cluness has been nominated for the Fergie Jenkins Adult Pitcher of the Year award. This distinguished award has been around since 1994, it was renamed after Fergie Jenkins in 2004. It is awarded to the best Pitcher in all of Ontario. Being nominated is a huge accomplishment by itself.
Chris has now finished his playing career at the Junior Division. 2 of the last 3 years he has been on teams that have finished as finalists during the OBA Championships, he was a huge reason as to why those teams have finished as finalists.
In 2016 Chris appeared in 17 games, 11 starts, went 12-0 with an ERA of 1.74, threw 63 innings, only walked 3 batters, struck out 31, earned 2 saves, had a WHIP of 0.841, averaged 2.93 pitches per batter, and did not give up any homeruns.
Chris was dominate from the very first game he pitched in, all the way to and including the OBA Junior AA Championship game. He was a Friday night starter for tournaments as well as every Championship Sunday game his team managed to play in. Aside from how well he performed on the field, off the field he was also a shining example of what it is to be a leader. Chris always showed respect for the umpires, the other team, and coaching staffs. Chris also made time to help run numerous Pitching and overall skills camps for younger players at the grass roots level of Baseball, he was always the first to volunteer his time to show younger players how to improve and develop their skills. Winning this award would be a fantastic way to end his Minor Baseball career.
