Congratulations to the London Tecumsehs Major Mosquito team who completed an EPIC playoff run this past weekend in St. Thomas.
The weekend began with an extremely well-pitched game as the Tecumsehs bested the London West TinCaps 12-1. The top-notch pitching continued into the following morning as the Tecumsehs defeated the London Badgers 9-0. The table was now set for a 7pm showdown against the Sarnia Braves who accomplished a rare undefeated regular season at 22-0. However, Mother Nature had other plans and that evening’s game was postponed until Sunday morning. Sunday began with the Tecumseh bats on fire and they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. The Sarnia Braves, who have no quit in them, battled back thru the middle innings to pull within a couple runs. Thankfully for the Tecumsehs, some timely hitting late in the game enabled them to pull away for good and finish with a 16-8 victory.
Next up was the always tough Wyoming Wranglers who have a lineup, top-to-bottom, of kids that can absolutely mash the ball. In a back-and-forth battle that also included great pitching and defence, the Tecumsehs were able to prevail and pulled off a 7-6 victory. It was now onto the finals in a rematch with the Sarnia Braves. Midway through the game and neither team allowing much offen
ce as the pitching and defence on both sides was stellar. Tied 1-1 in a battle of attrition, the Tecumsehs received a spark on the base paths as lil “e” who was dead-to-rights on a tag play at second base, leaped over the infielder to reach the base successfully.
A newly energized team then put together some hits and pulled out to a 3-1 lead. As the game continued and the teams exchanged knockout blows, the Tecumsehs lead heading into the bottom of the 7th stood at 8-5. Mixing in a couple outs with a couple walks and hits, the bases were loaded and Jayden V. on the
mound. With the fans and players on both sides cheering and screaming at the top of their lungs, the always composed Jayden stepped off the rubber a couple times between each pitch until he reared back and delivered the final strike. TECUMSEHS WIN!!
Many thanks goes out to all of our parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and fans who helped build this team and support them through a long, hard season. But most importantly, to the group of young athletes that we, the coaches, have had the pleasure of sharing the field with … THANK YOU.
