The London Tecumsehs Baseball Club held their 4th Annual Tournament over 2 weekends spanning July 12-14 & July 19-21.
The '06 Tecumsehs played in the 2nd weekend in a newly created AA and above division which brought in some great talent from across the province.
With the highest temperatures of the season and major storms in the forecast the weather decided to make it's presence known! All afternoon and evening games were cancelled due to the weather and fingers were crossed that Saturday would bring better weather!
Saturday did co-operate to a degree and many games were played! The '06 Tecumsehs had a good battle from the Bolton Braves which ended in a 9 - 9 tie.
Just before the teams 8:15pm start time for game 2 another massive storm rolled in which cancelled all games for the remainder of the evening.
The Tournament Convener and Staff worked into the early hours to figure out a way to make sure all age divisions could play on Sunday with a playoff in all 5 age divisions! What this meant for the '06 Tecumsehs was it would take 3 games on Sunday to make the Final.
The weather Sunday was great for baseball! The Tecumsehs played Ajax in the morning and after giving up 4 in the 1st inning rallied back to win the game 16 - 5.
This set up a Semi Final game against the same Ajax team. The bats were working for both teams and at the end of 7 innings the Tecumsehs won the game 10 - 6.
This would set up a Finals appearance against a familiar opponent - Barrie Baycats AAA!
The Tecumsehs got out of the gate first with runs in the first few innings. Behind some lights out pitching and clutch hitting they found themselves up 6 - 0 in the 5th inning. Barrie's bats got hot in the 6th and they put up 5 runs. The '06 Tecumsehs responded with 4 in the top of the 7th to take a 10-5 lead. That would be the final score after a shut down bottom of the 7th and the '06 Tecumsehs captured their 3rd OBA Tournament of the season!
What a great display of Relentlessness and Determination by this team! Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer us on and to the Tournament Staff for dealing with the weather so well and keeping the diamonds in great shape!
